Goodbye Fitzroy, and Hello Silky Oaks!! (11th Feb)

Writer's picture: Kev and JulieKev and Julie

We left Fitzroy on the 9.30 Cat sailing.

On arrival back at Cairns, we were picked up by our transfer company, and taken by minibus, to the Silky Oaks Lodge, which is outside Mossman, in the Daintree National park, which is rainforest, at the very northern tip of Queensland.

The journey took about an hour and a bit through the sugar cane fields, dropping other people of in Port Douglas on the way.

On arrival at Silky Oaks, we realised that we were in paradise!!!

Our accomodation was luxurious, to say the least. We had our own private 'tree house', which had everything we could need.....including free Chocs!!!

Julie had commented that she had not had a hammock yet on this round the world trip, (because she had one in the Cook Islands on the previous one), so we could now tick that box too!!!!

After unpacking, we went to explore heaven....

We went for a swim in the billabong on the Mossman river, which was deserted,

and it was lovely and warm...amazingly since it was natural spring water!!!

On the walk back to the lodge, we saw wonderful wildlife

And then we went to the resort pool, one section of which we again had to ourselves.

Just us and a couple of Aussie beers!!!

This was indeed 'The Life'!!!

After this it got dark and we had a light dinner --- Pizza! The night was full of animal sounds.
