Pahia - Bay of Islands (31st Jan)

Updated: Feb 3, 2018

After a leisurely morning we went on a boat trip around the Bay of Islands. We were supposed to go though the 'Hole In The Rock' on our boat, but the weather was worsening, and the sea was rough in places. Unfortunately it was cloudy for the rest of the day.

We were well into the cruise, (and on the way back actually), when we were fortunate enough to see a large pod of Bottle-nose Dolphins,. The pod included at least 2 if not 3 young ones - an opportunity for some great photos!

We got off the cruise boat at Russell (which is across the bay opposite Pahia, and which we learned was called the 'Hellhole of the Pacific' in the 19th Century.

Now its a quaint and lovely town!

We had dinner as recommended in the lovely Marlborough Hotel. I had a great Wagyu rump steak.....

and Julie had fish and chips, (which was Snapper - the fish we had caught in the Coromandel).

For desert I had a verty tasty NZ blue cheese ,

and Julie had Pannecota.

After a great meal, we caught the short ferry-boat ride back to pahia, where we discovered that we had had just a little too much sun - a warning nonetheless!!!
