The last day, Waitomo (29th Jan)

Writer's picture: Kev and JulieKev and Julie

Monday was to be our last full day with Nan and Steve and family. We went to a drive to the Aranui Caves which were in a nature reserve near Waitomo, which was 'you guessed it' from Hamilton.

The area was very green, lush, and rain-foresty!

Also in the cave we were 'lucky' enough to see a NZ creepy-crawly, a 'Weta'....look away if you don't like bugs... its like a cross between a spider and a cockroach - a cockroach with long legs - but LARGE!

And we saw the Maori symbolic curly ferny thingy again.

On the way home we stopped in Waitomo to try some tasty treats...a pulled pork Bagel

Fish'n'chips and steak pie and chips....

...and my open steak sandwich.

Before leaving town, we needed the loo, and this was the first (and only) time I have ever gotten a camera out in public toilets!!!

We finished the day with a great family barbecue which Steve cooked, and I learnt a great new way to cook sweetcorn, (in the leaves on the barby before covering with cheese and spices....Jamie apparently, and very good!)

Everyone came to the barbecue and we said goodbye to Steve's dad George and Lauren's boyfriend Preston. It was a great dinner and a good way to end our stay with Nan and Steve!
