This was a travelling day! We were up early, the cases were thrown in the car, and it off back down Highway 1 heading South to Auckland. We were about on time. and most of the journey was spent listening to the news reports on the damage in South Island. As we crossed the river just before Auckland, there was traffic congestion due to Highway 1 being partially closed due to floodwater! We arrived at the airport, ditched the hire car, and checked in. Following this we had an opportunity for a rest in the 'Stratos Lounge'. Kev took the opportunity to catch up with the blog, but the PC was not allowing the connection of the camera, so no photos were able to be added. We had to be content with doing the last 3 days blogs in text only, and the photos from the main camera will be added later when an opportunity arises - hopefully in Melbourne!
We had a good flight from Auckland to Melbourne, which was a 3+1/2 hour flight, but another hour ahead. We got the 'Skybus' into the City and from where it dropped us at the Southern Cross rail & bus terminal, it was only about a 10 minute walk to our hotel, the Holiday Inn on Flinders, Melbourne.
After freshening up, we went for a walk to take in the sights and acquaint ourselves with our new surroundings!
We found that our hotel was well-situated, only a short walk to the river, where the 'Southbank' particularly has a large number of striking new high-rise building,s and bars and restaurants.
We had dinner in the Crown Center, which is a bit like Las Vegas - it has Cinemas, night clubs, at least 3 casinos (all of which are huge), bars and restaurants and a huge open air Asian / Indian food court, where you can work your way around the east in different plates of food for a few $ a plate - excellent!!!
